How to Disable Built-In PDF Viewer in Firefox [Quick Tip]

Mozilla continues updating their Firefox browser and Firefox 15 Beta is the latest version to be released for testing purposes. As you must be aware of, Memory leaks have always been an issue for Firefox but in this beta version, Mozilla claims to have achieved better Memory optimization. Along with better Memory optimization, Firefox 15 also has the capability to read PDF files with its inbuilt PDF viewer. PDF Viewer is available in Firefox 15 without installing any third party add-on. It is great that you can now open any PDF file directly in your Firefox browser and don’t need to download PDF files just to check its contents.

All the above features are very basic but enough to read any PDF file directly in the browser. Some limitations are – the Print option is not available, it is still in development mode, it may not open all types PDF files so you may need to install some other powerful PDF reader in the system separately.

I have just reviewed the various features and drawbacks of Firefox 15 Beta built-in PDF Viewer. After reading this article, some people might still want to use this feature while others might wish to remove it from Firefox. Now I will tell you the way to disable built-in PDF Viewer in Firefox 15.

1. First of all, start Firefox 15 browser, enter about:config in the Firefox URL bar then hit Enter.

2. The first step will move you to Firefox’s internal settings page where you can customize Firefox as you like. This is not possible in normal settings.

3. Next navigate for pdfjs.disabled and double click on it to make its value true.



Now Firefox will not open any PDF files with its built-in PDF Viewer. You can get this feature back any time, just browse the same Preference pdfjs.disabled setting and set it to false.

Virus Update: Never Click the Osama Dead Video Link Shared by Your Friends On Facebook

Osama Bin Laden’s fake death video has been making the rounds on Facebook since yesterday, just hours after the death of the international terrorist leader. The spam video link spreads as message updates on Facebook users’ wall and the unknown user gets tricked into playing the video which in turn spreads the fake spam links.

The Osama virus spreading spam links across Facebook claims to play the banned video of Osama Bin Laden’s death. When you click on the video link, it will take you to a Facebook fan page, which demands you to click “Like” button for viewing the video. After that, it might give you an external link or ask you to copy paste some scripts on your browser. Once you do this, the spam post not only appears in your own profile but circulates to all your friends’ wall as well.

But some spammers take this to another level by offering users to complete a survey before viewing Osama’s death video. These scammers earn money every time a survey is completed and that’s the reason they want you to share this fake links with others.



How to prevent Osama Virus from Posting in your Profile:

Unlike the page which tricked you into showing the fake video and report them immediately to Facebook.

1. Don’t allow any applications which claim to show this rare fake video of Osama. If you’ve already allowed such an app, then remove the application immediately.


2. Don’t copy and paste any scripts in your Facebook profile.


3. Don’t blindly trust or click any spam links which claim to get the rare video as the video doesn’t exist as of now.


4. If you’re using Chrome, make sure you don’t paste any scripts in your browser bar, as the browser tries to preload anything you type in the ‘awesome’ bar.


5. Keep your Antivirus up to date, or if you don’t have one, download any of the antivirus posted here [Kaspersky 2011, Norton 2011, or Mcafee Antivirus]

As scammers are experimenting with every opportunity which comes their way such as Osama’s death or the Royal wedding, it’s us who have to be vigilant and watch out for these tricksters and not fall for their scams. Being the Flagship Smartphone from Micromax, this Canvas 4 comes with with the price tag of Rs 17,000. Given the tag of affordable innovation, it is still the best pick under 20k range.

Android 5.0 Lollipop has an included Wear watch face API, which means you can now customize, switch and manage your watch faces from the companion app. One of the nicest additions to the new faces is that weather icons can now be included on Wear watch faces.

Screen brightness options

This is awesome. One of the main reasons I leave my Wear device at home is if I'm going to meet friends or hitting a movie theatre, because the constant lighting up of notifications is insanely distracting. Even when no notifications come in, the ambient glow from my watch face is enough to make people stare, especially in a bar or cinema. Now you can swipe down for a revamped menu screen that gives you options for Theater or Sunlight modes.

There's some other cool stuff like accessibility settings for those with vision impairments and automatic sorting of menu items based on the most recently used ones (no more scrolling all the way to the bottom to get to Settings!).

Android Wear 4.4W.2 update features

It’s the news you’ve all been waiting for - Android Wear version 4.4W.2 brings some changes to the notification setup, as well as the framework for some new features to come up in the future. Read on for more details on the Android Wear update.

The additions which the new update brings are of a “blink and you’ll miss them” pedigree, the only change which you might see being the ability to remove your top notification from the watch face. This is a feature which is sure to please many Android Wear smartwatch users, as before this, a notification would occupy a portion of your display until you opened up the card or dismissed it.

The patch also brings the ability to pair the LG G Watch with Bluetooth speakers or headphones, though currently this has no practical function (seeing as you can’t put music onto your smartwatch to test playback). We presume this is priming Android Wear for some new music functionality in a future update, however, you now have a ''Ok Google, play music'' command at your finger...er, wrist tips...

The Moto 360 also gets a Smart Battery Saving feature that will switch off ambient mode when your battery reaches 15%, better time synchronization to make sure the watch is exactly up to date, and a feature which enables adaptive mood lighting whilst it is charging.

The LG G Watch R practically comes out of the box with the update waiting, adding four new watch faces (to make a total of 24), the Bluetooth section in the settings and the ability to swipe down on notifications to remove them from the main screen without dismissing them.

Nexus 5 Android 5.0 Lollipop update: today's the day!

If you've been following our Android 5.0 Lollipop update coverage, you'd know that November 3rd came and went with a bit of a whimper. Then last week began and ended and still no Android 5.0 Lollipop update for the Nexus 5. Knowing that the delay was caused by a software bug which was wreaking havoc with battery life made us understanding, but no less impatient. But today is supposed to be the day: all leaks, rumors and expectations have been fixated on November 12th for the last little while, so start the countdown clock...

• Skip the wait and get the Android 5.0 ROM on your Nexus 5 right now

As you've probably already heard, the Moto X (2014) got the Lollipop soak test late last week. The rollout has officially started for the Moto X (2014) Android 5.0 update and even the Moto G (2014) is getting Lollipop, making the Nexus 5 miss out on the front-of-the-line VIP service once again. Even the LG G3 got the Android 5.0 update before the Nexus 5. So how serious was this battery bug, and how come the Moto and LG devs didn't seem to worry about it? Perhaps it's just another nifty Google-built, Nexus 5-specific issue.

All we can do is wait patiently, frantically hitting F5 on the Google Developer's Blog factory image page or ''Check Now'' in System Updates. The Android 5.0 factory image for the Nexus 7 (2012) was leaked already, and there's even details on Android Wear 5.0 Lollipop for wearables, so it seems like it'll only be a matter of hours until we get what we've all been waiting for. Keep an eye out for an install tutorial as soon as the binaries are uploaded to Google's Nexus firmware page.

The recent history of the Nexus 5 Android update...

While both the Nexus 6 and Nexus 9 come out of the box running Android 5.0, the rest of the Nexus range will have to wait a little bit longer. The Nexus 9 got the final build version of Android 5.0 just before it hit the Play Store: what Google called the ''retail version'' of the new Android firmware. And earlier in that same week, as various Nexus devices saw the Android 5.0 source code uploaded to the Android Open Source Project (AOSP), we all got tittery with excitement and awaited imminent OTA rollouts or factory image deployment. But nothing happened. So what went wrong?

It seems that the Nexus 5 Android 5.0 Lollipop update was suspended thanks to a catastrophic battery drain problem caused by the upgraded firmware. Nexus 5 owners using the Android L preview build reported the problem on Google's issue tracker service, where a Google employee promptly responded stating that the issue was being worked on. The complication was reportedly provoked by a Wi-Fi bug which would continue to wake the device without cause. Since then the issue has been fixed, but we're still unlikely to see the Nexus 5 Lollipop update arrive until November 12th, as with the rest of the Nexus range.

Traditionally, the more significant Android updates have had a two-week window or so in between the AOSP code being uploaded and the factory images appearing. Smaller updates tend to see the AOSP code and images go live around the same time. The over the air updates, however, may start before the factory images appear, but because they take weeks to complete, the factory images usually appear before everyone has the OTA anyway.

The two methods deliver the same result, although the OTA won't wipe your device clean like flashing the binaries will. The OTA will simply appear for you one day (or you can feverishly go to Settings > About Phone > System Updates > Check Now like a madman). The second method simply requires you to download and flash the factory image from Google once it is posted - which could be as soon as today or sometime next week. Once they're available you can grab the factory image for your specific Nexus from the Google Developer's site.

Considering the batching process for the OTA update, it could easily be mid-November before you finally see it on your phone. The factory images might not even appear this week (although we think they will). But never fear, as soon as the OTA starts rolling or the factory image becomes available, the internet will melt down – so there's no chance of not knowing all about it when it does start.
