The mammoth 5.7 inch QHD AMOLED display is crisp and at a resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels, the image quality is similar to G3 if not more. The screen has a whopping pixel density of nearly 500ppi which will make it one of the best displays in the smartphone market.

The 2.5D feature adds depth to the icons and other items along with a slight shadow effect  - and this comes a long way in revamping the UI look. To aid this feature the display has been beveled at the edges and corners so that the screen sort of protrudes outwards.

Samsung Galaxy Note 4 Hardware

Samsung has always ensured that the Note series is powerful enough to take on its rivals. The Note 3 in fact still tops the AnTuTu benchmark. The Indian version of the Note 4 will be fitted with the latest Exynos 5433 Octa Core SoC in cahoots with an extremely mighty 3GB RAM complimented by the 32GB of onboard memory. The Note 4 will come out of the box with Android KitKat 4.4.4 and Samsung says that the next Android iteration, L is on the cards for the Note 4 later this quarter.

Samsung as usual did not disclosed the exact release date of the phablet at the event, but hinted towards a potential October release/ availability. However you might not have to wait that long according to the latest report. A online retailer Unlocked Mobiles, has gone ahead and opened the pre-orders for the Sim free device at a whopping £599.98 ( Rs 60,000 approx). Well that would make Note 4, the costliest phablet in the market. Difficult to say if Samsung will be able to wing a pricing like this once again in the Indian market, given strong presence of new rivals who are promising to offer a lot more for less.

In addition the retailer has mentioned the availability of the stocks in early October.

Samsung SM-G5309W: Declare hi on the very first Snapdragon 410-powered smartphone

Samsung is expected to release a 5 inch phone with the 64 bit Snapdragon 410

Samsung is prepping to release a 5 inch phone that will be the first phone to be powered by all new Snapdragon 410. The smartphone bears the model number SM-G5309W and the phone has already been certified by the Chinas Telecommunication Equipment Certification Center.

The leaked photos tell us that Samsung has not done something drastically different design wise on this phone as it looks just like any other samsung smartphone. This device will be pegged at the medium segment and the screen may resolve into 540 x 960 pixels which is not something great and suggest that the device might be priced in the range of Moto G and Asus Zenphone 5.

The feature list includes an 8-Megapixel primary camera and a 5Megapixel secondary camera that is devised to appease the selfies fans. The computing end is as we said earlier, it will be graced by a quad core Snapdragon 410 chipset that will be clocked at least 1.2GHz. This device will have an Adreno 306 GPU. Samsung has not yet officiated that it will be using this 64bit Snapdragon processor in this phone.

This phone is actually slated for a China launch which means that it is Asian market centric and has ample reasons to set its foot on the Indian shores too. Samsung has slipped the sales chart due to the fact that Chinese manufacturer are luring the entire world with high class produce that proves to be one heck of a value for money (Yeah! We are talking about Xiaomi) Samsung should put some labor and spruce up its entire mid segment and budget Android phones with the latest hardware and refrain from Glossy cheap plastics.

Samusng still has the chances to recoup and it would be great if they price out their products well. We wonder why Samsung couldn’t pitch in a Moto E competitor at the same price tag with the same features.

Budget smartphone market is blooming with all the manufacturers lining up their devices. First Moto E redefined the Rs 5,000 market and now Xiaomi's Redmi 1S takes it to a new level, blurring the lines between feature and smartphones even further.

In today's comparison we pit Samsung’s latest offering the Galaxy S Duos that is expected to create a stir in the low end Android market. We also have the Lava's IRIS X5 which sports high end features like the HD display and a powerful processor.

Design and Build

The Xiaomi 1S has one of the best design lines out of the lot. The front facade is graced by the 4.7inch display followed by the capacitive keys. Apart from the thinned out bezels there are no shiny stuff, The rear prescribes to a well finished back cover along with a minor protrusion that houses the camera lens pod. Chrome volume rocker keys are great especially whilst considering the bland contrasting.

The Duos 3 looks just like all the other Samsung’s with the screen rests within thick bezels that look dated. Samsungs signature physical menu button along with the capacitive buttons find a place at the bottom. The rear seems to be bland with no design elements.

Lava Iris X5 has a thinned bezel and rather bland capacitive keys. The rear is graced with a matt finished back panel and a slight protrusion the houses the camera lens and the dual LED flash. The speaker grills rest at the bottom.

Screen

Redmi 1S has a 4.7 inch screen with an resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels translating into a pixel density of 312ppi. The Redmi has a 1GB RAM tagged along with a Adreno 305 GPU. The UI flow is extremely smooth and the Redmi 1S will snarl and gobble up any tasks you throw at it without a fuss.

Galaxy Duos Core will sport an unknown SoC that will produce 1.2GHz. This device will sport a 512MB RAM which is a telltale sign that this device once launched will be underpowered just like the slew of other Samsung budget phones. We just hope that they won’t burden it further with the heavy Touch Wiz.

Lava Iris X5 is a well-balanced phone and houses a descent 1.2 GHz quad core processor and a Gigabyte of RAM. Iris X5 handles multitasking and high end graphic laden games with relative ease but we still feel that at this price Lava should have equipped it with a better powerhouse.

Pricing and Verdict

The Redmi 1S is the most affordable and also powerful of the lot. It comes with an excellent display unit and an Camera that feels like it is stripped form a high end phone. The Redmi 1S is currently available in India only through the Flash sale for Rs 5999.

The Lava Iris X5 is seems to be overpriced at Rs 8649 but then again it makes it up for the high pricing with its 5Megapixel secondary camera. Thee X5 is sleek but at the same time a little bland. Features like the HD display and 8GB storage make the X5 a sweeter deal.

Samsung seems to be stuck in a Time Capsule set at least at previous smartphone generation. The only chances of the Samsung S duos 3 being successful is if it is priced below Rs6000 which it won’t be as it is Samsung. Features like the 512MB RAM and low resolution display repels the consumers add will add to the woes of Samsung.

Apple have been charming consumers with their well-built and elegant tablets but Samsung and other manufacturers are catching up- proof being the latest Galaxy Tab S. We put the two together, to see if Samsung tablet can ideed rival the Apple beast.

Design and Build

Well we would have directly vouched for the iPad Air and snubbed the Galaxy when it comes to styling but this time Samsung has come up with a very neat design. They have typically done away with the cheap bits and added bold lines which make the Galaxy Tab S reek of elegance. The iPad Air embibes the traditional iPad design but when it comes to dimensions then it is much thinner and lighter than its predecessors.

The Galaxy Tab S looks brilliant from the front and the Samsung’s Signature physical key is shrunk and yet it looks extremely proportionate. The Rear is finished in metallic color and the center houses the seemingly large Apple Logo. The rear looks a tad too bland with nothing but no man’s land.

Screen

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S 8.4 has an 8.4 inch Super Amoled screen set to display at 1600 x 2560 pixels translating into a superlative pixel density of 359 ppi. The touch is super responsive and the color reproduction is something we still can’t stop drooling over. Viewing angles are perfect with no sorry bits.

Apple has always ensured that it fits the idevices with the best display and the iPad Air is no different. iPad Air has an enormous 9.7 inch screen that has a resolution of 1536 x 2048 translating into a modest pixel density of 264ppi. The viewing angles are good and the screen looks lucid but somehow the depth and the reality we see in the Galaxy Tab S are missing from the Air. The Screen has an oleo phobic scratch resistant coating as well.

Camera


Cameras have been becoming equally important in Tablets as well and having said that the Galaxy Tab S comes with a 8megapixel primary camera along with LED flash and a 2.1 megapixel secondary camera. The image quality is impeccable and something we previously didn’t witness in the Samsung Tablets.

iPad Air sports a 5Megapixel primary camera along with an precise Autofocus mechanism that is extremely fast. The iSight camera ensures that the pictures are well lit without over exposing them. Secondary camera is a mediocre 2.1Megapixel sensor which is still sufficient for occasional selfies and Facetime. The only qualm is the missing LED flash.

Under the Hood

Samsung Galaxy Tab S is fitted with a powerful Snapdragon 800 processor that is fine tuned to produce 2.3GHz. When it comes to connectivity both the Tablets are equally well equipped with all the connectivity options you will need. Samsung Galaxy Tab S 8.7 comes equipped with 4G LTE, 3G, Wifi, Bluetooth and GPS.

The Air comes with similar options and an extremely impressive 8600 mAh battery that lasts for more than 10 hours. This is the best part of the Air.

Pricing and Verdict

Apple iPad Air is currently retailing at Rs 32,299 for the 16GB version on the other hand the Samsung Galaxy Tab S 8.4 retails at Rs 36,023. The Samsung has done an excellent job in churning out a high end tablet. It has an excellent screen, one of the best build and design and extremely efficient camera units. If your family is in need of a simple and easy to use premium tablets then go for the Tab S.

The iPad Air has a certain dash of elegance and an unparalleled brand value. The compact form factor ensures that it won’t be a task carrying it around. The screen and the touch responsiveness is one of the best in the tablet industry. The only setback is the absence of the flash otherwise if you desire an extremely thin tablet that can be your daily driver then go for the iPad Air.

The budget phablet from HTC which is on sale for about Rs 22,000. It comes with a 5.5 inch 720p display, 1.6 GHz quad core Snapdragon 400 processor, 1.5GB RAM, 13MP rear camera and 2MP front camera, 8GB internal storage which is expandable by 128GB and runs on Android 4.4 KitKat with Sense 6 UI on top of it. It lacks a stylus but the specifications are way better than the G3 Stylus.

The selfie smartphone was just launched in India for Rs 23,999. It has a 5.5 inch 720p display, 1.2 GHz quad core Snapdragon 400 chipset, 1GB RAM, 8GB internal memory expandable by 32GB, 8MP rear and 5MP front camera and runs Android 4.4 KitKat. Its camera unit will surely give it an edge over the G3 Stylus provided that the G3 Stylus gets priced somewhat similarly.

Asus Zenfone 6

This phablet will be taking on the G3 Stylus in terms of value for money. Priced at Rs 16,999, it comes with a 6 inch 720p display, 2 GHz dual core Intel processor with Hyperthreading, Android 4.3 Jelly Bean upgradable to KitKat, 2GB RAM, 13MP rear and 2MP front camera, 16GB internal storage expandable by 64GB and will surely be giving the G3 Stylus a run for its money.

LG G3 USER INTERFACE into the future in order to reduce and also mid array gadgets

LG has also embarked upon updating its devices regularly with the latest operating system in a timely manner. The manufacturer recently received “Best of the Best” award from the 2014 Red Dot Communication Design Award for its Smart Keyboard, Knock Code and its Graphic User Interface (GUI). LG has finally started catering to its mid-range and entry level customers in quite a good manner by giving them a premium experience and we really like this move by the Korean manufacturer.
